With this CGI project I wanted to optimize and simplify the process of an organic animation.

At the start one of the key steps of the project was gathering flower references. The biggest challenge of the project was the shading and lighting of various translucent surfaces, where all of them had to work in an artistic and realistic manner. 

Flower Rig

I wanted to create a simple rig, but with enough control and flexibility to create a realistic animation.

Blooming Animation

The use of references was crucial to create a believable animation of a blooming flower. Real time-lapse footage of flowers show a snappier movement,  I decided to art direct the animation and reduce the jumps to create a pleasing visual experience but trying to maintain its realism.


I sculpted a young and an aged version of the petal.
